But it’s more than just physical—this hormonal chaos impacts the neurotransmitters of the brain as well, which can create mood swings and emotional turmoil. Navigating the Transition: How Acupuncture Can Help

By focusing on the body’s energy pathways, acupuncture can alleviate the common symptoms of perimenopause, such as hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings, while also addressing the root cause as well.

A research study with 209 women, ages 45-60, each exhibiting severe VMS symptoms (vasomotor symptoms; hot flashes and night sweats). Each participant in the acupuncture group received treatment weekly for six months, this study concluded that acupuncture caused a significant reduction in symptoms on an average of 40% as opposed to the no acupuncture group. Secondary symptoms such as depression, anxiety and insomnia were also greatly reduced.
