Emotional Wellness

Finding Peace

” It is possible to awaken and return to yourself “

Whether in the microcosm or macrocosm, we seem to be inundated with political drama, economic issues, the fear and sadness around global wars, not to mention all of our personal ups and downs, stresses and worries. It can sometimes feel like the fabric of life is about navigating through nothing but challenge.

In Chinese medicine, there is no separation between body, mind and spirit. This triad is unique and has been respected for thousands of years. Here, emotions and physical health are intimately connected- the connection between mind and body operates in a dynamic loop where emotions impact the health of the body and vice versa. For example, irritability and anger can affect the liver and bring about symptoms such as, PMS, headache, insomnia or dizziness. Alternatively, an already existing imbalance in the liver can bring about more irritability and anger.

Medical imaging has shown us that acupuncture has a direct impact on the brain, including all neurotransmitters and hormones. For example, the body’s natural feel good hormones like serotonin can be enhanced with acupuncture, while the stress hormone cortisol, can be reduced. In addition, acupuncture calms the mind, promotes relaxation, deactivates the analytical brain which is what is responsible for anxiety and worry and impacts the somatosensory cortex, which assists the body back into a parasympathetic state. This is so invaluable for patients that are seeking a natural alternative, where medications have a slew of side effects, acupuncture has none.

Another natural alternative is Chinese herbal medicine, because while acupuncture acts as a rocket ship, resetting the body overall. Chinese herbal medicine makes those subtle but valuable shifts each day bringing the body back to balance in between treatments. In our clinic, we can easily craft a customized herbal prescription on site from our fully stocked Chinese granule pharmacy, with some Western herbal additions as well.

At Tao to Wellness, there’s no limit or age range for treatment. We love working with all ages and inside the realm of emotional health, we especially love working with young people. We understand it’s sometimes challenging for middle and high school youth to be open and forthcoming with their feelings, with acupuncture they don’t have to be, the medicine just recalibrates everything on it’s own.
