Patient Case Study: Food poisoning and Acupuncture

Patient getting acupuncture at Tao to Wellness in Berkeley, California

A 34 year old patient came in last week after eating something questionable at a favorite, local Mediterranean restaurant. They woke in the middle of the night with upper abdomen discomfort. Soon after waking, alternating vomiting and diarrhea occurred roughly every 30 minutes for about 5 hours.  They were able to go online and make an appointment with us first thing in the morning.  By then, the vomiting had subsided, but the diarrhea seemed relentless. Their upper abdomen was also sore and there was lots of gurgling.

At Tao to Wellness, we follow the Balance Method which is an imaging system using distal needling to treat different areas of the body.  To treat the abdominal area, upper and lower, we use points around the knees and the elbows. These two targets mirror the abdomen, with the eye of the knee or cubital crease of the elbow mirroring the navel. These points work magically, sending out the pathogenic substance, but also harmonizing the abdomen, bringing it back to its original balance.

We also recommended lots of electrolytes. Most people will reach for Gatorade, while this is an option for electrolytes, it also has tons of sugar and artificial colors. The sugar-free Gatorade uses fake sweeteners that can cause other chronic issues. It’s best to use all natural coconut water, just be sure to double check that there’s no added sugar. Another wonderful option, is bone broth. It’s collagen rich and has the electrolytes calcium, potassium, sodium and magnesium. Bone broth feels like a big hug to your system.

The patient connected with us later that day and reported that within 2 hours although they still felt tired, they were about 80% better.  Unfortunately, they’ve experienced food poisoning many times, and said it always takes days to feel better. So they were grateful!
