In 2007, ten German health insurance funds conducted a study on the effectiveness of Acupuncture. A total of 454,920 patients took part in the study, with each patient exhibiting one of three different chronic pain issues, either headache, low back pain or osteoarthritis. The study included 8,727 acupuncturists.
80% of patients were female with a median age of 53 years, low back pain accounted for 45% of the participants, headache accounted for 36% of the participants and osteoarthritis at 12%. The study took place over a period of three years.
Conclusion: Acupuncture was of benefit in 96% of patients.
